Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408)

For specific short-term activities in Australia from research and entertainment to religious work, sport and specialist events.

Overview

The right visa for a defined activity

The Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408) covers a wide range of activity specific streams, including entertainment and production work, academic research, religious work, sporting activities, staff exchange arrangements, superyacht crew, and taking part in a government endorsed event or an approved special program such as a youth or cultural exchange. How long you can stay depends heavily on the stream anywhere from 3 months for an invited community event up to 4 years for some government endorsed events, with most other streams capped around 2 years.

Because the streams and evidence requirements vary so much, correctly identifying which one genuinely fits your circumstances from the outset makes a real difference to approval timeframes.

Who this pathway is for

  • Performers, entertainers and production crew.
  • Academics and researchers on exchange.
  • Religious workers on a short-term assignment.
  • Athletes, coaches and sports officials.
  • Participants invited to a government endorsed event or approved special program.
  • Superyacht crew or staff on an organisational exchange.
